Impact area: Our communities

We are committed to fostering inclusive and supportive communities where people with disability feel valued, connected and empowered. This impact area focuses on creating opportunities for people with disability to participate in community life, addressing barriers and promoting positive attitudes.

Through 4 action areas, we aim to ensure our activities are inclusive of the whole community and all regions, supporting Queenslanders with disability.

Action 4.1

Promote and participate in events focused on supporting people with disability.

Our key activities

We will implement these activities within 1–3 years:

  • Active promotion and creation of opportunities for employees to engage in disability events.
  • Identify and leverage internal and external opportunities to raise awareness of events and promotional activities for people with disability.
  • Showcase our diverse workforce through various communication channels, including the intranet, newsletter, all staff emails and departmental LinkedIn.

Action 4.2

Promote social procurement where appropriate.

Our key activities

We will implement this activity within 1–3 years:

  • Prioritise engaging suppliers who generate social benefits by creating employment opportunities for people with disability.

Our milestones and measures

  • Embed social procurement in offer and tender processes.
  • Number of social enterprises engaged that employ people with disability.

Action 4.3

Promote the benefits of people with disability joining Queensland Government boards, steering committees and advisory bodies.

Our key activities

We will implement these activities within 1–3 years:

  • Create and support opportunities for people with disability to join boards and committees fostering meaningful change and diverse perspectives from within.
  • Brief partner recruitment agencies and our delegates on the importance of including people with disability in applicant pools to ensure equitable representation.

  • Increased number of people with disability appointed to boards, committees and advisory roles.

Action 4.4

Remove barriers to people with a disability and their carers accessing public and community spaces.

Our key activities

We will implement this activity within 1–3 years:

  • Continue to provide free Australian Disability Parking Permits for up to 3 vehicles, with a streamlined and accessible online application process.

Our milestones and measures

  • High satisfaction rating for disability parking permit process.
