Focus area 4: Promote social cohesion
All Queenslanders have a responsibility to foster social cohesion in our communities. The Queensland Government will take action to respect and celebrate the contributions of Queenslanders from diverse backgrounds.
Our action and status for 2024-25
We delivered on the following action:
- Take a strong stance against racism, and actively promote anti-racism messages to staff, clients and communities in line with each agency’s unique context.
Our outcomes we achieved:
- CDSB mandates completion of the SBS Inclusion Program series as part of onboarding and annual mandatory training. This series has been designed to improve understanding of inclusion and provide staff with the necessary tools to actively promote diversity.
- We introduced a new value Our People. Our Priority. : where we will work together to prioritise the wellbeing of our people to ensure a healthy, safe and respectful workplace that fosters a culture of respect and inclusion and actively progresses equity and diversity outcomes.
- CDSB is also a member of the Diversity Council Australia, Australia’s independent not-for-profit peak body leading diversity and inclusion in the workplace. All staff have access to the website, resources, national webinars etc.
- Teams across CDSB celebrate cultural diversity with a range of locally hosted events.
Case study
Celebrating belonging and inclusion at Queensland Shared Services
At Queensland Shared Services diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the workplace culture. The team encourage staff to bring their whole selves to work and celebrate what makes each member unique.
From Bollywood dancing and the creation of a cookbook for Multicultural Month, to Harmony Week celebrations featuring staff handprint collages, t here’s always something meaningful and enjoyable happening at work.
The team put together a range of events from online quizzes and board games to indoor recreational activities, guest speakers addressing wellness and mental health, and fundraisers, offering a diverse and engaging calendar for staff.
With a strong belief that everyone has something to contribute, Queensland Shared Services fosters an environment where everyone feels respected and included. This not only means a stronger and more productive workforce, it also means the team delivers better services for Queenslanders.
