Child safe organisation
We are a child safe organisation and reporting entity under the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024.
Our commitment to put children’s best interests, safety and wellbeing first is to help protect all children under the Act. We work to keep children safe from harm by following the 10 Child Safe Standards and applying them in our spaces and services.
We embed in our practices the core Universal Principle to promote and uphold Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children’s right to cultural safety.
Our role as a child safe organisation
We provide services to all Queenslanders, including children and families. Children may interact with our services in person, over the phone and through online channels such as:
- in customer service centres
- Queensland Government Agent Program (QGAP) offices
- our contact centres
- customer service operations and digital access teams that travel through Queensland.
We apply the Child Safe Standards and the Universal Principle in the way we design and deliver these services, proportionate to our level of contact with children. We have established processes to enable people to raise concerns about our or our workers’ engagement with children.
Our focus
We will:
- Apply the 10 Child Safe Standards and the Universal Principle across the department, proportionate to our level of contact with children.
- Implement the Reportable Conduct Scheme.
- Work to stop, recognise and respond to inappropriate behaviour (reportable conduct).
- Report reportable allegations and convictions to the Queensland Family and Child Commission.
Our actions include:
- Update our policies and procedures to follow the Child Safe Standards and Universal Principle.
- Educate and train our employees on their responsibilities.
- Publish our Statement of Commitment to Child Safety.
- Share updates and resources online.
Our obligation to report conduct
We will work to stop, recognise and respond to inappropriate behaviour towards children.
We will report to the Queensland Family and Child Commission on how we respond if an employee is the subject of a reportable allegation or a reportable conviction.
We will report a matter under our Reportable Conduct Scheme for assessment and response. We also report certain matters to the Queensland Family and Child Commission.
