Small and family businesses affected by crime and local councils can apply for funding to boost security and deter criminal activity on their business.

Small and family businesses

Under the second round of the $40 million Secure Communities Partnership Program, grants are available to fund critical safety upgrades such as:

  • alarm systems
  • surveillance
  • lighting.

Funding details

The program offers grants between $5,000 and $20,000, with recipient businesses making a co-contribution of at least 50% of the project cost.

Eligibility and how to apply

To be eligible for a grant, your business:

  • must have less than 20 employees
  • have a maximum annual turnover of no more than $10 million
  • must have been directly impacted by crime or operate in an area impacted by crime in the last 5 years.

Applications close 5pm Tuesday 30 June 2026, unless funding is exhausted beforehand.

Local councils

Local councils can apply for funding to improve the safety and amenity of public spaces in their communities where small businesses are operating.

Each council can submit up to 2 applications, for up to $400,000 each, for projects that:

  • upgrade physical infrastructure (landscaping and environmental design)
  • install or upgrade surveillance and alarm systems
  • improve perimeter or property defences (such as fencing, bollards and lighting).

Applications close 5pm Tuesday 31 March 2026.
